Здобув ступінь магістра (2002) та кандидата історичних наук (2004) на історичному факультеті Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка, а також вивчав полоністику у Ягеллонському університеті (2002). Як історик-антикознавець, спеціалізувався на історії та культурі давніх кельтів, їхній взаємодії з античним світом. Досліджував культурний вплив давніх кельтів на території України, історію кельтології та кельтоманії в Україні, історичні звʼязки між Ірландією та Україною за модерної доби. У 2015 році захистив докторську дисертацію на тему «Кельти в етнокультурних процесах Центральної та Східної Європи (ІІІ ст. до н. е. – І ст. н. е.)». З 2017 року основна сфера наукових інтересів - соціальна історія фотографії. Дослідження присвячені питанню, яким чином фотографічні технології впливали на формування світогляду та ідентичності населення Центральної та Східної Європи. Є головою редакційної колегії наукового журналу Текст і образ: актуальні проблеми історії мистецтва.
Gennadii Kazakevych obtained a master’s degree (2002) and a PhD (2004) from the Faculty of History at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and also studied Polish studies at Jagiellonian University (2002). Trained in Classical history, he specialized in the history and culture of the Iron Age Celts and their interactions with the Classical world. His research explored the cultural influence of the ancient Celts on the territory of Ukraine, Celtic studies and Celtomania in Ukraine, as well as historical connections between Ireland and Ukraine in the modern era. In 2015, Gennadii Kazakevych defended his postdoctoral (habilitation) dissertation on the topic “The Celts in the Ethnocultural Processes of Central and Eastern Europe (3rd century BC – 1st century AD).” Since 2017, his primary research focus has been the social history of photography. Gennadii Kazakevych investigates how photographic technologies have influenced the formation of worldview and identity among the population of Central and Eastern Europe. He is the head of the editorial board of the scholarly journal Text and Image: Essential Problems in Art History.
